A little care helps you enjoy your candle. Start with the instructions on your candle’s label: these take priority over general guidance, including how long to burn it and when to stop using it.
Your first burn
Choose a time when you can stay nearby. Let the melted wax spread evenly across the surface as far as your candle’s labeled burn limit allows. Don’t extend a burn just to force wax to reach the edges. Extinguish the flame before leaving, and let the wax cool fully before relighting.
Preventing tunneling
Tunneling is a deep well around the wick with unmelted wax left at the sides. Repeated very short burns can contribute to it. When possible, allow an even melt pool while staying within the label’s limits. If a deep tunnel develops or the wick struggles, extinguish the candle and contact us for help. Don’t dig into hot wax or improvise a foil cover.
Trim before relighting
Once the candle is completely cool, trim the wick according to its label and remove loose wick pieces or debris before lighting. If the flame becomes unusually tall or smoky, extinguish it, allow it to cool, and check the wick and care instructions.
Choose a safe spot
Use a stable, heat-resistant surface away from drafts, curtains, and other flammable items. Keep children and pets away, never leave a burning candle unattended, and don’t move it while lit or while the wax is hot.
What to expect from the scent
“Hot throw” means the fragrance you notice while a candle burns. Perceived strength varies with the fragrance, room size, airflow, and your own sense of smell. Give the fragrance time to develop within the label’s burn limit; a longer burn is not a reason to exceed that limit.
